Our Goal and Mission

The mission of Maryland Saves is to encourage all Maryland residents, especially low- and moderate-income families, in their efforts to build wealth by saving more and reducing their debt. Maryland Saves has created a coalition of Maryland organizations including local financial institutions, non-profits, community groups, faith-based organizations, employers, universities and educational entities, trade organizations, federal, state, and local governments to collaborate on local campaigns and initiatives to motivate individuals to save for the future. Maryland Saves and its coalition partners will provide services including free membership for savers to develop an attainable savings plan, free one-on-one coaching, educational programs, and free quarterly America Saves newsletter for all savers. We will introduce Maryland Saves financial products such as low-fee or free savings accounts in collaboration with financial institutions, savings bonds, and other savings products. Through information, advice and encouragement, Maryland Saves aims to assist Maryland residents, especially low- and moderate-income families, who wish to pay down debt, build an emergency fund, save for a home, save for an education, or save for retirement.

The overall objective of Maryland Saves is to educate and assist families in building wealth by saving and reducing debt. While the program is appropriate for people of any age, the target audience is adults with low-to-moderate incomes. The program is designed for face-to-face recruitment and sign-up, followed by web-based, telephone, and face-to-face follow-up.
